3 Reasons You Need Concrete Repair

Do you own a home and sometimes wonder if you should do something about your concrete? Whether you have walkways, a driveway, a sidewalk or all of the above it is likely that your property needs at least a little concrete repair. If your home was previously owned it is likely that the concrete structures it has are either nonexistent or badly in need of maintenance. Concrete has a lifespan of about 25 to 50 years, but previously owned houses likely have their concrete driveways or walkways well into that range. As the new owner of the home, it is good practice to do at least some concrete repair to keep the existing structures stable.

Here are three (more) reasons why you need concrete repair on your property:

  • Aesthetics. Did you know that concrete comes in over 250 colors? You can match your walkways or driveway with the color of your house or car or just have them be whatever colors you want. Even if you don’t want to go all designer on your walkways, simply touching them up can do wonders for the look and feel of your property. A crumbling concrete driveway or sidewalk is just not appealing and gives an otherwise polished looking house an unnecessarily unkempt look. If you have visitors, throw parties, or have business meetings in your home, something as simple as driveway repair can work wonders for the impression you leave on your guests.

  • Safety. Repairing your concrete structures can be the difference between life and death depending on who is using them. If you have elderly or disabled guests or housemates, smooth walkways and driveways can prevent physical injury. Did you know that a finished sidewalk should slope at least one-fourth of an inch per foot? Sometimes a concrete structure needs to be remade because the initial attempt was not done properly and may cause problems in the future.

  • Prevention. Last, but certainly not least, having well-done walkways and sidewalks on your property can prevent unnecessary lawsuits from being filed against you. There are many cases of people suing the property owner and the city for tripping or otherwise hurting themselves on a crumbling or otherwise unkempt concrete sidewalk. The worst part about these lawsuits is that you never see them coming.

Concrete is just not something that we think about on a regular basis (if at all) unless we are getting something constructed. Before reading this article you may have never even heard of or thought of concrete repair, but like they say, “It’s the little things”.
