The AAMA Angels was launched in 2007 in affiliation with the Asia America MultiTechnology Association (“AAMA”), one of Silicon Valley’s leading business networks (www.aamasv.com). Our mission, as one of the first institutionalized angel groups in China, is to enable entrepreneurs based in the Shanghai area to raise angel or early-stage capital (from US$100K to $1M) from accredited angel investors – who can provide not only capital, but also operating expertise and relationships to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
Currently, the AAMA Angels has nearly 50 members, most of whom are senior professionals within their respective industries (TMT, healthcare/biotech, clean tech, real estate, retail/consumer products, manufacturing, legal, and financial services including VC/PE). We maintain high professional and ethical standards for each of the members, and new angels can become members by invitation only.
The AAMA Angels was founded by a group of professionals who saw the real lack of institutions which can help entrepreneurs think about their businesses in a formalized way, and the tremendous desire for angel investors seeking early-stage investment opportunities in China. The AAMA Angels is now organized into a steering committee and its general members. The steering committee has taken the role of managing the organization and has been instrumental in establishing the processes and policies of the AAMA Angels. The general membership participates by helping the organization source and screen deals. While our members all share a passion for investing and working with entrepreneurs, one of our objectives is to provide economic incentives to encourage active participation by the general membership. Although we are still a young organization, the AAMA Angels has received much attention and support among leading professionals both in the Shanghai area and elsewhere.
